Character Observation

Good Evening Dear Readers....

When out in public, whether it is at a family dinner at a restaurant, shopping, at the beach, or my favorite place Pub Night with some of my dearest friends, one of my favorite things to do is people watch. Now there are entire websites that are devoted to people watching, such as: peopleofwalmart.com and all I can say on that is wow....
I have watched engagements occur, babies being announced, first dates, and some seriously ugly break-ups that included food and beverage being tossed around.

So tonight's Q&A is on people watching. What is the best or worst, entertaining or down right bizarre, what is your favorite people watching story? What made you stop mid sentence and gawk or silently stare and the applaud? As a girl who was proposed to in a public restaurant, (very embarrassing by the way...Guys the public venue is NOT the way to go!!!!) I know that we were applauded. So take a moment, think about your favorites and do share with the rest of our readers.

The Return.....

As promised in my earlier post, here is a small snippet of "October Moon." (which is the current working title) I have found that there is a movie by the same name, but like I said this is the "working title" I'm open to review and commentary and do know I am looking for open and honest criticism. Please Email me editing ideas and this work is copied and backed, please do not copy or re-post this without my permission.

The Return (October '07)

He hadn’t had that dream in years, a flash, the searing pain, her screaming and blood, blood everywhere. He sat upright in a cold sweat, reaching for the bedside light. His chest hurt, he absently rubbed where the a faint scar sat on his breast bone, that bullet wound was 17 years old, white and faded there was no reason for it to hurt, yet tonight it did. The clock on the night stand read 2:00 am, why do nightmares always occur at 2 am and why all of the sudden was he dreaming of her again. He wasn’t going to get back to sleep tonight; he flipped back the covers, got out of bed, staring out the window. The fall moonlight casting long shadows along the ground. He glanced down and looked at his work cases, the handles glinting from the light cast from the small lamp. He’d been doing this for too long, maybe that was it. Maybe it was time for a change in his career. The rest of the team would be in here in two or three weeks. He’d headed out early, he wasn’t sure why, maybe it was the fact that this was his home town, or maybe it was the fact that she’d filled his every waking thought for the last two months. He shook his head and laughed to himself, one too many maybe’s lately. He picked his wallet up off of the dresser and flipped it open to the pictures. There she was 19 years old forever; his favorite picture was the one of her chin resting in one hand watching off in the distance. She was such a contrast to him, smaller, but not frail, were he was dark she was fair. He shook himself to scatter the past and looked down at the cases on the floor again, they held the tools of his trade, a life and a job that took her from him in a single act of violence. He should have told that he was working undercover, maybe she would have stood a chance, and maybe she would still be alive. They were after him; she was simply an innocent bystander in the wrong place at the wrong time. He sighed and leaned his forehead against the cool glass of the window. In the morning he would drive over to the reservation and maybe see his father, then he’d head over to the church, Dan Ross was now the pastor there. Dan had been his best friend and his partner on the force a lifetime ago. That was before he’d been shot and that was before Dans’ little sister and the one woman he ever truly loved had died in his arms.

Flat Stanley...slightly off topic

Now, I have to toss this up here really fast and promise that I will add a small novel snippet later this evening, but a dear, dear friend is currently hosting Flat Stanley for my DS who is in second grade. I will toss a few updates, but if you haven't read the book, it's a great kids read about a little boy who gets "flattened" by a bill board and his parents "mail" him off to visit. It was based off of the Flat Stanley project:

The Flat Stanley Project was started in 1995 by Dale Hubert, a third grade schoolteacher in London, Ontario, Canada. It is meant to facilitate letter-writing by schoolchildren to each other as they document where Flat Stanley has gone with them. Dale Hubert received the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2001 for the Flat Stanley Project.

The Project provides an opportunity for students to make connections with students of other member schools who've signed up with the project. Students begin by reading the book and becoming acquainted with the story. Then they make paper "Flat Stanleys" (or pictures of the Stanley Lambchop character) and keep a journal for a few days, documenting the places and activities in which Flat Stanley is involved. The Flat Stanley and the journal are mailed to other people who are asked to treat the figure as a visiting guest and add to his journal, then return them both after a period of time. The project has many similarities to the Traveling gnome prank except, of course, for the Flat Stanley Project's focus on literacy.

Students may find it fun to plot Flat Stanley's travels on maps and share the contents of the journal. Often, a Flat Stanley returns with a photo or postcard from his visit. Some teachers may prefer to use e-mail. In 2005, more than 6,500 classes from 48 countries took part in the Flat Stanley Project.
The project was featured in a 2004 episode of the animated TV series King of the Hill, in which Nancy Gribble received a Flat Stanley doll in the mail. Peggy Hill and Luanne Platter photographed it in a number of dangerous situations, resulting in the school's Flat Stanley Project being canceled.

According to the February 26, 2009 broadcast of Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Flat Stanley was on board US Airways Flight 1549 which landed safely in the Hudson River. He was carried to safety in the briefcase of his traveling companion.

In 2010, St. Louis Cardinals fans were asked via the team website, to petition President Barack Obama to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Hall of Famer Stan "The Man" Musial. A "Flat Stan" down loadable cutout figure was made available, to get Cardinals fans to take their pictures with Musial's caricature, and send them in as petitions.
So, my DS's class is participating in the Flat Stanley Project, each created a "flat stanley" and shipped him off to visit out of state. Stanley is currently in Chi-town with Auntie Hammie and is off to a birthday party...(hers that is) Will keep you posted....but I highly recommend Flat Stanley By Jeff Brown

True love's first kiss.....

Greetings and Salutations and Welcome to Auctorial Flights of the Imagination.
This is the first official blog for a book that I have been working on for a while. I've actually branched a single thought into several story lines that will eventually become other books. Yes, I am a closet writer....OK now that you've snickered at that thought, there are a few friends that know of my secret passion and I have from time to time passed along bits and pieces for them to read. Why am I peeking out of my dark writing place now??? Well I was dared by a friend,,,and he will remain nameless for the time being, but I will be tossing shameless plugs in regards to his projects on a daily basis....Ok I probably just gave away who it is to mutual friends....

So on and upward to today's question:

Do you remember true loves first kiss?

I do....and I was 15 and he was 18. Ok, I know roll your eyes, but I was smitten....
He was sweet and was my first real heart pattering crush, that became what love is at that age and then when the summer ended moved on.... I have on occasion wondered if he did what he said he was going to do in regards to college and then after.

So dear readers, I'm asking you to share with me your first kiss and in return, I will share with all of you a small peek of my main characters (Rebekah and Brian)....and their first kiss.....
